SPORTSMANSHIP POLICY AND PROCEDURES The coaches, referees and members of the Leeds Youth Athletic Association are all volunteers to help the children learn and understand the game that they are participating in. I. Parents/Coach/Spectator issues:
A. For behavior such as negative talk, profanity or lack of respect for fields/courts: If the referee or coach feels that any individual parent or spectator is not conducting himself or herself at a game in accordance with good sportsmanship and the spirit of the game, the coach or referee will request that the parent or spectator refrain from the offensive conduct. If the parent or spectator persists in the conduct, the coach or referee may ask that the parent leave the area of the field of play. If the parent or spectator refuses to leave the field of play, the game will be stopped until the person has left. If the parent or spectator still refuses, the game will be called. The individual displaying such behavior will be immediately removed from the playing area at future events (if displaying such behavior at a future event, no warning will be given). The incident should be reported to the Leeds Athletic Association Board immediately. Contact: Jan Mulherin 933-4530 or Jenny Hudner 524-2632. An incident report will be filed with the Leeds Athletic Association Board. A special meeting (Executive Board) will be called and a vote will decide disciplinary measures. Depending on behavior exhibited a penalty up to and including being prohibited from the playing fields for a period of six months could be implemented. B. If there is physical contact (pushing, hitting, etc): The individual should be removed from the field of play immediately. If the individual will not leave the field of play, the game must be terminated. The incident should be reported to the Leeds Athletic Association Board immediately. An incident report will be filed. Penalty up to and including being prohibited from the playing fields for a period of six months to three years could be implemented depending on the severity of the incident. II. Players If a player exhibits unsportsmanlike behavior, the player should be told to refrain from the offensive conduct by his/her coach or an official. If the player persists, the player should be asked to leave the area of play for the remainder of the event. Unsportsmanlike behavior from a player is unacceptable and will be punished up to and including suspension from future events. If there is ever physical contact during an altercation (before, during or after a sports event), an incident report will be filed. A special Executive Board meeting will decide disciplinary action. Penalty up to and including being prohibited from the playing field for the remainder of the season could be implemented. If the action is of a severe nature, the individual could be prohibited from participation in any Leeds Youth Athletic Association sponsored activity for up to one year.
